Nestled in the town of Pittsford, this grand home is marked by its commanding front pillars, timeless symmetry and stands as a piece of history. Built in an era of Georgian and Colonial inspiration in 1920, the house has long carried an air of distinction. Over the years, modern updates softened some of its original voice, and our task is to restore the home to the spirit of its golden era. This signature project is one where heart, history, and home all converge.

In the mud hall, a recessed alcove offers a welcoming spot to slip boots on and off, while a dedicated station for the family pups—with faucet and feeding space—ensures no family member is forgotten. Custom cupboards provide storage for each individual, a vintage mirror gives a final check on the way out, and wood paneling integrates the space into the home’s architectural rhythm. At the center, an island styled as a vintage furniture piece ties back to the kitchen cabinetry.

The great room dovetails seamlessly with the kitchen, anchored by a carved marble fireplace and flanked by custom wood-lined built-ins. The kitchen’s adjacent large island wraps a banquette for dining and extends into a run of counter seating, creating a natural flow for gatherings. Beyond, a cushy sectional beckons family movie nights, with the Frame TV doubling as artwork when idle. Overhead, wood paneling and beams stretch across both kitchen and great room, wrapping the spaces in warmth and texture from ceiling to floor.

In the kitchen, the cabinetry was designed to feel like timeless furniture pieces, with carved corbels, wood-lined interiors, and Cremone bolts on countertop storage units. Curated moments highlight vintage plates, while a long built-in desk space answers the request for a dedicated spot to organize daily life and work. Base drawers provide order, while a carved canopy overhead sets this nook apart as special. Walnut-trimmed recessed bookshelves link visually to the great room, tying together adjacent spaces with consistency and warmth.

The pantry stands as a gorgeous workhorse of a space, outfitted with backup appliances for effortless entertaining and fabric-lined cupboards that beautifully conceal canned goods and small appliances. Function and refinement are equal partners here, making the pantry both practical and poetic.

We are re-imagining the kitchen, pantry, mud hall, gathering room, and primary suite with a deep commitment to both beauty and function. The design is enriched with timeless gestures—carved brackets placed inside built-ins, brass pot rails for displaying vintage plates, and woven baskets for dry goods in the pantry—all creating a lived-in, time-honored feel. Custom molding and millwork restore character to every corner, bringing the historic voice of the home to life once more.

Upstairs, the design is centered on creating an atmosphere of personal solitude, comfort, and layered storytelling. In the primary bedroom, the bed is tucked into a bespoke niche, creating a peaceful alcove for rest and renewal. Carved beams and ceiling details echo the language of the first floor, while a fireplace at the foot of the bed grounds the room with warmth.

A dormer has been transformed into a tea nook, with a banquette lined in custom cushions and a petite table for reading and quiet moments. Nearby, a kitchenette concealed within cabinets paneled similar to the panels on the walls provides hidden functionality without disturbing the serenity of the space.

The suite’s baths open through arched walnut doorways, each with its own distinct personality. Her bath features whimsical blue-and-marble mosaic tile, wood floors, a carved ceiling adorned with floral wreaths, birds, and ribbon, and a makeup vanity reimagined from a treasured antique. His bath speaks in a more masculine voice, with emerald-and-marble checked floors, emerald tile in the shower, walnut paneling, a mural wallcovering, and a suspended mirror that captures natural light from newly added windows.

Together, the bedroom, tea nook, and baths create an upper level that is both sanctuary and story—spaces layered with character and meaning, designed to reflect our clients’ lives while offering a haven for rest and renewal.

The primary suite was envisioned as a private retreat balancing elegance with intimacy. Carved millwork and historic detailing carry the architectural language of the home inward, while the bedroom and en suite bath were designed to feel serene, timeless, and deeply personal. The result is a suite that ties with the design on the first floor with both calm and belonging.
